Despite its small size, this community&#8217;s central location in Calgary&#8217;s northwest quadrant places it next to some important landmarks.<\/p>\n<p>Whether you\u2019re a student, a sports fan, or a parent this community offers many opportunities for entertainment and personal enrichment. These come mainly from University Height&#8217;s close proximity to the University of Calgary, McMahon Stadium, and the Stadium Shopping Centre.<\/p>\n<h2>The University of Calgary<\/h2>\n<p>University Heights is located just south of the University of Calgary&#8217;s main campus, and was once the home of Prime Minister Stephen Harper when he was getting his degree. It\u2019s the perfect place to live if you are attending the University as well, since most of your classes will only be a short walk away.<\/p>\n<p>Being near campus has its perks even if you\u2019re not a student. For example, it brings you in close proximity to <a href=\"http:\/\/oval.ucalgary.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Calgary&#8217;s Olympic Oval<\/a>, which was used for speed skating events during the 1988 Winter Olympics. The Oval is often open to the public, and you can utilize these public skate times for getting in some exercise or simply for having some fun with friends and family. Image credit: The Canadian Encyclopedia<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The University of Calgary also owns the football stadium known as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stampeders.com\/mcmahon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">McMahon Stadium<\/a>, which is located just to the east of University Heights. McMahon Stadium is the home of Calgary&#8217;s CFL team, the Calgary Stampeders, as well as to the University of Calgary Dinos, the Alberta Football League, and the Canadian Junior Football League.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re interested both in watching sports and in playing them yourself, then you will also want to pay a visit to the nearby <a href=\"http:\/\/www.calgary.ca\/CSPS\/Recreation\/Pages\/Athletic-parks\/Foothills-Athletic-Park.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Foothills Athletic Park<\/a>. Complete with tennis courts, a baseball diamond, a 400 meter track, and four sports fields, Foothills Athletic Park is the perfect place to head out and get some exercise. Furthermore, located just north of the park, you will also find the Foothills Aquatic Centre. Housing both a lane pool and a wading pool, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.calgary.ca\/CSPS\/Recreation\/Pages\/Pools\/Foothills.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Foothills Aquatic Centre<\/a> is great for those who are seeking exercise or recreation. It&#8217;s the perfect place to meet up with friends and get fantastic deals on weekly wings and ribs nights. Another prime location for feel-good food and a friendly atmosphere is <a href=\"https:\/\/redwatergrille.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Redwater Rustic Grill<\/a>, where Stampeders fans can claim a free dessert with their ticket stubs.
