THIS IS NOT RIGHT! - Holding the Customer Financially Responsible for a clear Business Error. As you can see below, Knight has historically been providing great service, but alas, I guess all good things must come to an end. -Insert Sigh here-

Here's the short story, I'm quoted $1500 for a part to get my 15-year-old furnace running. The technician wrestles with the part for hours. It's eventually revealed that this part, the control unit, is not compatible with my current blower motor: Amana changed the control unit and didn't tell Knight that it's not compatible with my blower. It will suddenly cost another $1500 to get the furnace going because they will have to install a new blower. I'm told that I have no choice, whether I like it or not, I'm paying for the currently useless control unit that has been installed today along with associated labour costs. I mentioned that maybe it would be more cost effective to get a new furnace than pay another $1500 toward a blower on the old one.(?) After a further call, it was then reported that I could get $1000 off the purchase price of a new furnace at approximately $8000 (i.e., I'm still giving away $500 for the useless control unit), but if I don't buy their new furnace I will continue to be on the hook to pay $1500 (and I continue to have a broken furnace). Yes, I still have the tantalizing option to pay another $1500 for the new blower (but is $3000 worth it on an aging furnace?). I later proposed/demanded to a manager that I would pay the $1500 for the control unit but they could put in the blower for free. I said I would also pursue legal assistance on the matter if they continue to charge me for only installing the control unit today which has not fixed the furnace. They replied with a goodbye, and they informed me that my loyal membership (that I've paid for monthly and for years) is cancelled: I'm now on their list as someone to no longer be served by the company (confirmed by telephone), but there will be no charges for today, as far as I understand - so I guess that's fair enough.
... HOWEVER, IS IT COMPLETELY ACCEPTABLE THAT THE CUSTOMER PAY FOR THE MISTAKE OF THE MANUFACTURER and/or the mistake of Knight, Plumbing, Heating, & Air Conditioning. Is this type of practice really okay and possibly condoned by this company? Why can't Knight or the manufacturer soak up the cost for this useless part especially with an attitude toward keeping a loyal and monthly subscribing customer? It's their error (certainly not mine). I think this is ethically wrong and bad business practice. There are other concerning aspects to this situation, but I've probably taken up enough space for now.

UPDATE: Thanks for the supportive reply below. I suspect my account is cancelled/deleted. I called with the requested info. I'm hopeful for a better resolution. STAY TUNED

PRIOR REVIEW: I've been going with Knight Plumbing, Heating, & A/C for about 7 years now, and all staff, including those from the electrical branch (Sun Solar & Electrical), have been very professional! George has been at my house a few times, including today, and he's always been friendly, courteous, conversational, knowledgeable, respectful (e.g., shoes always come off; cleans up; shuts the doors and lights off when completed), and willing to respond to any questions. He replaced inducer motors and collector boxes on each of my two high-efficiency furnaces today: 13-year-old Amanas - I'm a bit unhappy about simultaneously needing the same parts for each furnace, but it was obvious they were having a problem as shown to me. While being approachable, Knight staff get down to work and get the job done in a timely manner. They will call if there is going to be any kind of delay. Also, when you initially leave a message (phone or email) for them, you usually get a friendly call back within a few hours. I'm not sure they are the cheapest company (I don't really know), but often you pay for what you get, and I am pleased. I've seen several of the staff a few times, and they seem content and happy, and that's encouraging.

Installed an A/C with knights, some work was still left so called in to book an appointment to get it done. Took time off but no one came but when called was told they are running late and cannot cone in till later afternoon. Advised them that i have my daughters doctor appt. booked and can they come in later in the afternoon to which they advised they cannot as it will be late. Not a great experience being a new customer as this was the first appt. after installation. Now i have to wait another week before another appt. I understand that sometimes things don’t run on schedule but no communication about it and having someone wait with no notice when they took a day off specifically to get this done and no consideration given there is a small kid at home is not okay at all.
