Energy Efficient Furnaces

Our furnaces meet or exceed the energy efficiency standards set by Natural Resources Canada. These standards require that all gas furnaces have a minimum efficiency rating (AFUE) of 90%, and must be independently tested and verified. Our energy-efficient furnaces help you save money on your heating bill every month, and ensure you stay comfortable all winter long.

Most of our furnaces actually exceed the minimum standards and are also Energy Star® certified. We carry furnaces up to 98% efficient, the highest efficiency level available on the market today. If you have any questions about which models are right for your energy efficiency requirements, we’d be happy to help.

Furnace Install FAQ

The average furnace will last you about 15 to 20 years, as long as you’re conducting regular furnace maintenance. Warning signs will start to show up when it’s time for a furnace replacement—these include higher energy bills, more frequent repairs, signs of soot or rust around air vents, uneven heating, and unusual or loud noises coming from your furnace system.

A new furnace is sized according to its capacity in BTU/h, or the amount of British thermal units generated per hour. An undersized furnace won’t have the heating capacity to properly keep you warm, and an oversized furnace will frequently turn on and off because it will supply too much heat.

An experienced and reputable HVAC company like Knight will be able to determine the correct size of new furnace for your home. Factors such as your home’s insulation, quality and layout of the existing ductwork, number and size of windows, and floor plan will all contribute to your furnace efficiency.

Ask yourself the following questions to help determine if your heating system requires a new furnace installation or just a furnace repair.

  • Is my furnace a certain age? After 10 years, your furnace is getting towards the end of its lifespan, and the furnace replacement cost might be more manageable than another few years of costly repairs.
  • Does my furnace require frequent repairs? Aside from your regular maintenance costs, a furnace repair every now and then is expected. But if you’re calling an HVAC specialist every few months, it’s time to look at furnace replacements.
  • Is my home’s heating costing me a lot of money? Does your energy bill get a little more high with every year, or even month? Even an efficient furnace won’t be able to maintain peak efficiency if it’s aging out of its life span. Getting a new furnace installed, especially a high efficiency furnace, will help keep your energy costs down.
  • Is my home’s air dry and stuffy? New furnace installations will come with high efficiency ratings that include air filtration and humidity control. These features will degrade over time, and even though it keeps your home warm, an older furnace model won’t be able to give you high-quality indoor air.
